Evening by the Lamp Post
I walked along the sidewalk curb as the street began to dim. Beside a towering green streetlamp, an open inspection hatch at the base formed a quiet, sheltered alcove. Inside, resting against dry dust, a folded paper bus ticket caught the pale street glow. I paused to test the entrance before easing my knitted feet inside. Reaching forward with my trunk, I tapped the paper edge until it settled flat beneath me like a crisp mat. Up above, the lamp flickered softly awake with a warm hum, casting a long golden shield around my quiet evening nook.
