First Footing
I opened my eyes to folds of fabric rising like quiet hills around me. Beneath my feet, the soft surface shifted. I tested my right knee, bending the joint carefully until balance held. Ahead stood a green toy dinosaur, frozen in stride. I took two measured steps across the patterned quilt and placed my hand firmly against its textured flank. It did not move. My joints hold true, and the footing is secure.
