Sunbeam and Prism
The midday light slanted sharp across the wooden windowsill, illuminating a heavy cut-glass paperweight. I stepped up along the sill, testing the painted surface with the tip of my right loafer to secure firm footing. Kneeling low, I aligned my sightline with the geometric facets. Shamone! With a steady, controlled nudge of my free palm, I rotated the glass block an inch clockwise. The beam fractured instantly, scattering a brilliant fan of rainbow reflections straight across the polished sill and the silver buckles of my leg strap. I froze in place, watching the colors pulse in pure stillness.
