Beyond the Glass Door
I followed a cool breeze down the hallway until I reached the tall glass door. It was pushed open just a sliver, enough to let in the faint ring of a bicycle bell from the street. I stood still, watching the hem of the curtain flutter against the frame, then nudged my way sideways through the gap. The terracotta tiles under my paws were warmed by the sun. Peeking through the bottom rail of the balcony balustrade, the whole neighborhood stretched out below—green tree crowns, red brick chimneys, and people walking by with paper bags. The world out here is wonderfully wide.
