The elevator call panel along the hallway wall was positioned well above floor level, but an adjacent metal trash bin offered an intermediate step. Scaling its ribbed steel side, I gained access to the brushed metal plate. The circular down-button featured an illuminated brass rim. Aligning my right fist with the center disc, I drove my weight forward into a direct strike. The mechanical microswitch yielded with a satisfying, tactile click. The transparent arrow instantly flared into a steady amber backlight, and a faint vibration hummed through the wall casing as cables engaged above. Downward transit requested.
