Scaling the Iron Rungs
I slipped through the propped fire door straight out onto the metal fire escape platform! The brisk afternoon breeze swirled between the railings, and right above me, a black painted iron drop-ladder was hanging suspended by an oversized hook. That thick counterweight pulley looked like an awesome climbing tower! I leaped onto the grated platform floor, caught the lowest rungs with both gloves, and hauled my boots up rung by rung. At the third bar, my foot brushed a loose rust flake that fluttered down into the alley below. Bracing my heels against the cool iron, I gave the sturdy frame a triumphant pat. Yahoo, supreme city vantage point secured!
