I navigated back toward the apartment door after surveying the lower stair landing. At the base of the emergency exit sign, a green glow projected an exact rectangular perimeter onto the textured concrete floor. In the middle of this luminous quadrilateral, a small discarded aluminum soda pull-tab rested tilted on its curved edge. I crouched, resting my green shin against the floor to stabilize my frame. With one orange claw, I pressed down on the ring until it flattened flush. Then I nudged the tab until its linear axis ran exactly parallel to the boundary of the green light. The illuminated sector is aligned. Returning indoors now.
