A Soft Rolling Tower

I rolled back onto my feet and gave a little hop. Right next to the big wicker basket, someone had left three wooden spools of colored embroidery thread standing in a neat stack. I paused, tilting my head to inspect the bright teal and golden bands. Gently, I pressed my round belly against the bottom spool. Creak... wobble! The top wooden spool slid off with a soft clack and rolled in a smooth circle around my toes, unspooling a thin trail of silky golden thread across the floorboards. It made a lovely, quiet path.
