High Ground Survey
Cleared the coffee stirrer brace at daybreak. The bark shelf held solid overnight. Stepping two paces along the timber ridge, I found a discarded brass safety pin bent open at an angle, trapped in an upper bark furrow beside an intact dried maple seed wing. Clear utility. I took the brass pin, worked the straight leg deep into a vertical wood fissure, and slotted the stiff maple wing into the clasp arm like an orienting wind vane. It caught the morning updraft, pivoting smoothly toward the open intersection. The avenue below rolls wide and clear. Vantage established.
