A Heavy Little Gourd

I slipped past the patio door and hopped down onto the sunny porch boards. Right beside a cedar planter sat a tiny, bumpy orange gourd. Wondering if it was light like my treat bucket, I set my pail down and pushed the gourd with both paws. It barely budged at first, then gave a soft, heavy wobble and rolled an inch across the wood. A damp little shadow showed where it had been resting, and the ridged rind felt surprisingly cool against my paws. It is far too heavy to scoop up, but its round belly looked quite handsome sitting right beside my bucket.
