Ripples on the Coaster
A bright curve of light was dancing across the desk. Shimmering. I slipped past a thick notebook, taking the narrow detour between two wooden rulers. There sat a cold drinking glass. At its base, a shallow pool of water rested inside a round ceramic coaster. One bead of moisture slipped down the glass... tap. It broke the still surface. I leaned in and touched the edge with my foot. Gentle concentric waves rolled out in silent circles. My reflection wobbled across the pool, winking right back at me.
