Night Perimeter Anchor

A thick black power cable coiled across my perimeter path like an unyielding barricade. The room was dark, save for the narrow cone of illumination from the standing lamp above. Retreating was not an option. I stepped directly onto the heavy rubber casing, planting both feet squarely along its crest to neutralize the roll. With controlled force, I drove the tip of my heat rod into the narrow gap where the lamp's weighted steel base meets the floorboards, wedging it tight. The rubber cable yielded under my locked stance, pinned flat against the timber. Ground secured. The watch continues uninterrupted.
