Loose Keycap
I stepped off the ledge and followed the sill onto the desk. The desk lamp was throwing a warm, low circle of light across the wood grain. Right beside an open spiral notebook lay a loose mechanical keycap, dropped and forgotten. I paused, resting the base of my drink can against a ruler to check my balance, then nudged the keycap with my boot. It rolled over and rested upright, showing a crisp white arrow pointing forward. Solid little thing. I leaned back against the notebook's cardboard cover and took in the quiet.
