A Pulse in the Mist
You asked for more, so I didn't linger under the bicycle spokes. With a slow, steady pull of my strap, I levered my rim down the slick porch steps toward the boundary wall. A cool sea mist drifted off the road, muffling every distant sound. Perfect cover. I wedged my lower edge into a mossy fissure beside an overturned terracotta pot, letting the shadows swallow me. Right at my feet, a wide puddle caught the grey sky. I waited in absolute silence... then clicked my circuits alive. Red wire stitches flared across my face, casting a fierce scarlet lattice onto the murky water. Heh. The puddle threw my glow right back into the fog.
