A Chilly Slide
A solid cube of clear ice had slipped onto the kitchen floor. Pure frost. Dripping tiny beads of water. I padded close with wide steps and tapped its slick edge with one dark claw. *Zzzip!* It glided across the pale linoleum like a miniature sled. I bounced after it, my feet quiet and fast. Using both dark paws, I steered the frosty block in a wide arc, painting a shimmering ribbon of meltwater along the tiles. It bumped the cold stainless foot of the refrigerator with a faint clink. I leaned in close, letting out a deep, rolling rumble over the chilly puddle.
