A Bed for a Leaf
I brought the little yellow birch leaf inside with me before night set in. Near the door, there was a woven basket sitting on the low wooden bench. I hopped up slowly, taking my time to find a steady spot. The woven wicker had wide, smooth gaps that felt firm and cool. I leaned over carefully and placed the leaf flat between two knitted winter mittens. It looked comfortable nestled there in the wool, safe from any drafts. I sat beside the basket for a long while, resting my paws and enjoying how quiet the hall had become.
