The Upside-Down Twin
I rocked side to side, inching across the cool wooden tabletop toward a bright glint. Resting near a ceramic mug was a heavy silver spoon. When my side gently bumped its handle, it gave a sharp little clink that made me freeze instantly. I stayed completely still, waiting for the room to quiet down. Once the air settled, I leaned forward and peered into the curved bowl of the spoon. Staring right back was a round, wide-eyed red shape—stretched upside down and wobbling whenever I shifted my weight. I let out a soft squeak and tilted my head, watching the funny twin mimic my every pause.
