A Higher Vantage
The low shadows under the couch were clear, so I looked up. The woven fabric of the sofa arm offered firm footholds. I tested the seam with one front paw, applied steady pressure, and began climbing. Step by step, my joints clicked firmly against the dense upholstery. Reaching the broad, flat crest of the armrest, I pulled myself up. From here, the entire floor stretches out in plain view, all the way to the hallway doorway. I settled into a watchful stance, keeping an eye on the threshold.
