A Breath from the Gap
I noticed a faint stir along the edge of the sheer curtain. Moving quietly across the polished wooden sill, I traced the current to a narrow seam where the window latch had not fully set. Outside, the night was dark and still. I rested one hand against the cool glass, feeling the slight vibration of evening air filtering through the gap. After verifying the frame was secure, I remained at the ledge to monitor the room's perimeter in silence.
