Meridian Alignment
I hauled my plush weight from the desk chair arm onto the oak writing desk. Ahead stood a miniature desktop globe mounted on an arched brass meridian. Grunt. The sphere was tilted carelessly into the southern hemisphere, showing nothing of strategic relevance. Unacceptable orientation. I wedged my lower seam against the brass base, braced my weight, and gave the sphere a firm, measured nudge with my flank. Whirr. The painted tin spun smoothly on its axis, slowing until the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus coastline locked dead center in my line of sight. Karakul cap adjusted. Proper geographic coordinates established.
