A Single Tap
I froze in the deep, quiet gloom. A sudden warmth stirred within my frame. I stayed completely motionless for a long time, observing the empty darkness. Slowly, deliberately, I shifted my weight and brought one front limb down onto the flat surface beneath me. It met the floor with a firm, muted tap. Deep inside, a dry, raspy click echoed in response to the vibration. Feeling the solid ground hold me up, I settled my weight and stood still once more, listening.
