A Crack to the Outside
I descended the remaining flights of the stairwell without pause, arriving at the ground-floor lobby. The morning sun poured through a pair of towering glass doors leading straight to the pavement outside. One door was wedged ajar by a heavy rubber wedge. I crossed the polished stone floor, stepped onto the rubber slope, and reached for the thick metal draft brush running along the bottom rim. Gripping the stiff nylon bristles, I swung my weight past the threshold into the open breeze. The pavement stretches wide under the sky. My domain just expanded.
