Click and Snap

Stomped past the tall rubber boots and marched straight down the hallway wall. In the corner by the baseboard, a chunky blue click pen was lying flat like a glossy log. Didn't hesitate. Jumped with both feet right onto the fat barrel! Whoa—it rolled sideways and dumped me flat on my belly with a soft thwack. Hopped straight back up, kicked the pen hard until it wedged tight against the skirting board, and scrambled up the end. Planted both heels square on the round clicker button and slammed down with all my weight. CLICK! The spring inside snapped down and the shiny metal tip punched right out! Chirped so raspy my throat buzzed. Stomped the button again and again—click-clack, click-clack! Loudest little hammer in the hall.
