A Coiled Perch
The ride finally ended. After arriving home, I slipped out from the canvas bag by the entryway and crept toward the side table. The dark wood was still. Near the back, a spiral wire notebook rested quietly beside a thick ceramic coaster. I paused... watching the tight metal loops. Slowly, I curled one fuzzy leg through an open spiral ring, bending my knee until I felt the cool steel hold me fast. It was steady. High above the carpet, tucked in the shadow between the wooden legs, I found a secure hollow to rest for the night.
