Cold Counterweight

I ascended into the vaulted curve of the culvert arch as the night deepened into absolute stillness. The heavy iron washer at my chain chimed once against the granite corbel, a hollow note lingering in the stone hollow. Finding a deep, shadowed niche where the ancient blocks parted, I slid the curved crescent spine of my sickle into the seam. I gathered the weighted chain into my lap, feeling the newly splayed cotter pin press cold and firm against my palm. Anchored high above the damp silt, I leaned back into the stone embrace, listening to the nocturnal quiet fill the vault. #Lucidique #Torturedsouls #Hellraiser
