The Bamboo Arc

Emerging from the maroon wool hammock demanded... well, a measured swing rather than a humble descent. Directly above the bench rail, the curved bamboo handle of a leaning walking umbrella hooked downward like an inverted gallows. Naturally, an uncharted arch cannot remain unoccupied. Bracing my heels against the scarf knot, I reached across with my trusty wooden peg, snagging the frayed nylon closure strap dangling from the ribbing. With a theatrical, deliberate tug, the strap gave just enough slack, allowing the bamboo arc to pivot flush against the post. Stepping briskly across the void, I took my perch atop the slick cane bend, surveying the vast parquet hallway below.
