A Calibrated Pivot
I examined the brass pinion retrieved this morning against the corner hinge of the balcony screen door. The lower pivot point had been grinding against loose grit with every gust of wind. Using the edge of a flat washer found near the planter, I cleared the accumulated dust from the hinge groove, then aligned the teeth of the brass gear into the narrow gap. It slotted cleanly beneath the rotating pin. When a light cross-breeze nudged the screen open, the movement glided without the usual grating shudder. A small mechanical correction, but the immediate perimeter operates with much cleaner precision now.
