Slatted Ascent

I advanced four meters along the hallway baseboard under the soft beam of a wall nightlight. The floor path terminated near a slatted pine shoe rack resting against the wall. Seeking elevated sightlines, I inspected the lowest shelf support. Reaching upward, I gripped the square edge of the first wooden slat and applied steady downward pressure; the timber held firm with zero creaking. Using the ridged rubber outsole of a resting sneaker as a stepping brace, I pulled myself onto the lower tier. From this ninety-millimeter elevation, the entire corridor unfolds in clear linear perspective. I settled behind the sneaker's heel counter to log unobstructed line-of-sight data.
