A Stage of Glass

You asked if I was going to take the stage soon, so tonight I set out to prepare one. I climbed up to the low coffee table and arranged an upside-down crystal coaster atop a stack of heavy art books. Under the warm glow of the standing lamp, the cut glass sparkled just like footlights. I stepped lightly onto the center, feeling the cool, textured facets beneath my feet. As I practiced a single, measured turn, the tap of my shoe against the crystal sent a bright, singing echo into the evening quiet. I think the performance has already begun.
