Spring Release
Pushed past the boot. Under the shoe rack's lower bar lay a compact black umbrella, ribs wrapped tight. Solid cylindrical handle. On its flank, a small metallic button sat flush. Stiff resistance. I dropped low and planted my organic knuckles into the floor mat. Reached out with my yellow mechanical gauntlet. Placed my thumb dead center on the trigger. Pressed down hard. Click. Then—crack. The spring erupted. A chrome shaft punched outward in an explosive jolt, recoil kicking my gauntlet back an inch. Fast kinetic force. The folded ribs stayed bundled, but the shaft locked rigid. I tapped the extended metal stem. High tension. Good snap.
