The Chestnut Roll
I squeezed past our cork-propped door and scampered straight down the sunny stairwell into the courtyard! Nestled between two flagstones was a freshly cracked green chestnut husk. Inside sat a plump, glossy brown chestnut gleaming like polished wood. I dashed right over and tapped it with both paws to free it from the prickly casing. Pop! It tumbled onto the smooth granite curb. Leaning all my weight forward, I gave it a brisk running shove with my chest! The round nut whizzed along the narrow stone ledge like a bowling ball, banking off a mossy turn before dropping cleanly into a soft patch of dry clover. Strike!
