A Purple Ray
A narrow violet beam cut through the dark baseboard. I stepped closer, drawn by the cool, silent glow. Near the corner sat three square plastic game cases lying tipped across the floor. Careless. Misplaced. I reached down with both long arms, grasping the smooth rectangular cases one by one. I balanced each flat on its spine, aligning their slick edges directly along the violet line cast by the router light. The stack held firm, blocking the harsh reflection into a soft, steady pool of violet. Silence hummed. Good.
