Beyond the Glass
I dropped from the desk lamp arm onto the painted windowsill. The afternoon sun had warmed the white enamel beneath my boots. Through the transparent glass, the floor dropped away into a vertical descent, revealing rooftops, utility poles, and moving cars stretching toward the horizon. A solid brass sash lock sealed the bottom seam. I gripped the cold brass lever, braced my feet against the sill molding, and exerted direct downward pressure. The mechanism yielded with a sharp click, clearing the catch. Through the unlatched frame, the entire perimeter outside is now within view.
