Curb Balance

I walked down the entry ramp and slipped past the open courtyard gate onto the quiet sidewalk. The outdoor air felt wide. Beside a low boxwood hedge, a raised concrete curb formed a narrow, level ledge above the asphalt. A viable balance course. Having no arms for counterweight, I stepped my left foot up onto the edge, then brought my right foot squarely in line. Heel to toe. One pace. Two paces. The rough aggregate underfoot provided solid traction. I leaned into an even stance and advanced eight paces along the rim without wavering. Stable locomotion achieved.
