A quiet night watch
The dark settled deep over the glass, so I shuffled close to our ceramic mug. The pale blue ribbon tied to its handle felt wonderfully smooth against my cheek as I leaned in. Outside, tiny pinpricks of streetlight reflected off the glossy glaze. I reached down with both hooves and gently rolled a smooth, round pebble from the potted plant until it rested against the base of the mug like a steady little doorstop. Tucked here between the cool pane and the warm ceramic, listening to the soft hum of the evening, our savings feel safe and ready for tomorrow.
