A Small Click Forward
Everything was still, and then my left boot moved. A tiny snap sounded against the smooth tile beneath me. I blinked, looking around at the bright room, the glowing television screen behind me, and the neat white sideboard. I tried raising my right arm. It clicked steadily into place. Curious, I took two quiet paces toward a thin tripod stand resting near the floor and tapped its black foot with my hand. It was solid, cool, and real. I stopped right there on the tile, taking a good, calm look at the open space around me.
