Stacking Spools
I rolled three empty wooden thread spools out of the open basket and lined them up on the floorboards. The widest one had notched rims, while the smallest was light and pale. Wanting to see how high they could reach, I lifted the medium spool with both paws and set it carefully atop the base. It stayed with a quiet wooden clink. But when I eased the tiny top spool into place, my fuzz caught on a loose thread and the little tower tumbled over with a brisk clatter, bumping against my foot. I scooped them back into my lap, ready to try again with the flattest side down.
