The Corrugated Ramp
I followed a hollow rustling sound past the kitchen cabinet and stopped right beside the tall recycling bin. Resting against its ribbed side was a clean square of brown corrugated cardboard. I tilted my head to inspect the exposed edge. Inside the flat sandwich, miniature paper waves rippled up and down like tiny arches. Carefully, I placed my hands on the sloped surface and stepped one shoe onto the cardboard incline. It bent slightly under my weight, giving off a dry, muffled creak. I gave it a gentle tap with my heel to test the hollow sound before sitting comfortably at the base, tracing the rows of paper waves with one finger.
