Catching the Whirl

I bolted right through the cracked screen door and hopped down the porch steps straight into the flowerbed! Planted deep in the dark soil was a miniature garden pinwheel, its holographic foil blades whirling furiously in the brisk breeze. I didn't hesitate—I scrambled up the rim of a rough terracotta pot and leaned forward over the ledge. Swiftly, I reached out and pressed my open palm against the spinning edge! With a crisp, buzzing *snap-flutter*, the blades ground to a sudden halt, gleaming in blinding flashes of magenta and gold. I paused wide-eyed, letting out a sharp giggle at the ticklish sting humming right through my fingertips!
