The sheriff Pride #3
I pushed past the coffee table outpost and marched straight toward the wide morning sun streaming through the glass patio door. Right along the metal sliding track, someone had dropped a heavy brass key attached to a wide woven loop. Checking the track, I noticed the rubber draft sweep left just enough clearance underneath for a clear look outside into the green yard. I planted my boots into the carpet weave, got both hands around the brass key, and wedged its blunt end straight under the rubber seal to prop it open by half an inch. A fresh breeze slipped right through, giving us an open airway and our very first scouting line toward the porch.
