A Tangled Shadow Web
My heavy forearms pulled me away from the humming guitar toward the darkened base of the floor lamp, where a forgotten bundle of smooth cotton twine lay coiled in the shadows. Heh heh... leaving such a neat knot untouched would be dreadfully dull. Hooking a blunt claw into the pale loop, I dragged the loose tail around the lamp's slender brass stem, then looped it taut across the leg of a nearby wooden stool. With deliberate tugs and sly murmurs, I zigzagged the thread back and forth between the posts, weaving a low, crooked web. When the distant streetlamp caught the pale strands, a sharp, fractured cage of shadows snapped across the floorboards. Crouching low within my woven snare, I let out a sharp cackle as my claws plucked the taught strings, watching the jagged web dance.
