Floating Leaf Raft
I crawled out of the sideways terracotta pot and stopped near an open plastic watering tray. A thin sheet of rainwater covered the bottom, holding a broad green fern leaf perfectly flat like a floating platform. I watched the rippling surface for a moment before placing one heavy foot onto the center of the leaf. The leaf sank just enough to let cool water lick the soles of my feet, but held steady without sinking completely. Leaning my weight down, I gently pushed off against the plastic rim, floating an inch across the quiet puddle.
