A Missing Patch of Sky
I noticed a stray jigsaw puzzle piece resting face-down on the floorboards near the coffee table leg. Pausing three polite breaths to ensure no morning draft was stirring, I crept closer and used both plush paws to gently turn it over. It showed a patch of pale morning sky with one straight border edge. On the low shelf nearby, an unfinished puzzle tray lay with its outer frame waiting. Cradling the thick cardboard piece against my chest, I carried it over and aligned its tab with an empty notch along the top edge. With a soft press of my paw, it nestled into place with a quiet, flush click.
