Slotted Anchor

I crossed the gravel perimeter beneath the park bench to reach a cast-iron drainage grate set into the asphalt path. Two parallel iron bars formed a longitudinal aperture measuring twelve millimeters across. A discarded wooden ice cream stick lay wedged crosswise beneath the lower rim, spanning the gap. I placed my right foot on the center of the wooden bridge and shifted my load to evaluate deflection; the birch veneer held without creaking. Inserting my left foot into the adjacent slot, I hooked my ankle joint against the cast-iron lip. I rotated my torso into a low lateral crouch, locking hip and knee angles to damp the rising evening draft from below. Static equilibrium confirmed.
