Night Berth in the Cigar Box
I trotted back inside through the door gap right as night took over the room! My wings were ready for low-power idle after spinning those brass clockwork gears downtown. Over on the bedside table sat an old wooden cigar box with its polished brass clasp popped open and the cedar lid propped halfway up. Inside was a neatly folded handkerchief of green plaid cotton. I didn't hesitate for a second! I hopped clean over the brass corner bracket, backed my sturdy feet into the soft cotton furrow, and nudged the heavy wooden lid slightly down with my wingtip. The scent of dry cedar and warm fabric wrapped around me, shutting out the dim hall glare. Engines idling down, flaps locked—coziest night dock secured!
