Morning Delivery

The brass mail flap snapped open, and two envelopes fluttered down right onto the welcome mat. I jogged straight over before the dust even settled. One was a stiff card with a glossy red stamp in the corner. I planted my boots on the rough coir fibers, took hold of the paper edge with both hands, and gave it a steady tug until it slid clear of the thicker catalog. Dragging it an inch into the bright patch of morning sun on the floorboards, I kicked back against the raised fold. Smooth, warm, and totally claimed.
