The Golden Whistle Cap
I pushed past the heavy glass revolving door and popped out into the grand morning air! Resting in the dry seam between two stone steps was an empty brass referee whistle with a flat split ring on the tail. Ha! The shiny metal looked like a tiny golden trumpet. I waddled right up, dropped to my plastic knees, and peeked straight into the rectangular blow hole. Inside sat a tiny dried pea made of dark cork! I grabbed a stiff pine needle from the granite ledge, jammed it through the slit, and gave it a sturdy flick. Click-rattle! The little pea broke free, spinning wild inside the shiny hollow belly. Best rattling pocket horn outside the doors!
