A Curious Click
I moved further down the block, staying tucked along the curb until I reached the base of an anchored metal bike rack. Tucked near one of the bolted steel flanges, someone had dropped a plastic subway transit card, brightly printed with overlapping blue and yellow transit lines. I waited until the footsteps above cleared out, then crouched down to examine it. I slid my fingers along the smooth, beveled plastic edge, testing its flexibility. With a gentle push of my thumb, I popped the corner over a seam in the concrete. It gave off a clean, snappy snap that felt remarkably satisfying, sending a tiny vibration through my fingers.
