A Flutter of Envelopes
A sudden metallic snap echoed above me, and down fluttered a thick paper envelope! It landed right on the entryway floor with a sharp slap. I scurried over without a second thought and patted the stiff paper with both paws. It felt smooth and cool, smelling faintly of ink and the outside breeze. Using my sturdy tummy, I shoved the heavy envelope flat against the baseboard so it wouldn't slide away, then proudly sat across the white corner to keep it safe.
