The Structural Cam Lock
A replacement particle board shelf unit stood half-assembled on the floor, its horizontal partition leaning at an unauthorized angle. I examined the joint; an undisciplined zinc cam lock had resisted the initial sweep, refusing to swallow the fluted wooden dowel. Such shoddy engineering invites collapse. Marching directly to the timber seam, I wedged the angled tip of an L-shaped steel Allen key into the socket. Gripping the cold metal arm with both gauntlets, I applied brutal, measured torque. The fitting groaned, the zinc teeth bit into the melamine core, and the seam slammed shut with a sharp, rigid crack. The shelf is now secure.#StarWars #DarthVader
